Portland State pulls away late to beat Idaho State 88-65, led by Jaylin Henderson’s 30 points

Portland State strengthens Big Sky position with decisive home win
Portland State defeated Idaho State 88-65 on Monday night, Feb. 2, 2026, in Portland, outscoring the Bengals in both halves and turning a workable halftime edge into a runaway finish. The Vikings led 43-32 at the break and kept control throughout the second half, extending the margin to as many as 30 points.
The result pushed Portland State to 15-6 overall and 9-1 in Big Sky play, while Idaho State fell to 10-13 overall and 3-7 in conference games. The contest was played at Viking Pavilion.
Henderson’s efficient scoring and playmaking set the tone
Guard Jaylin Henderson led all scorers with 30 points, pairing volume with efficiency. He shot 10-of-18 from the field, went 2-for-2 from three-point range, and added 8-of-10 at the free-throw line. Henderson also logged seven assists, a combination that helped Portland State consistently generate high-quality looks while limiting empty possessions.
Terri Miller Jr. added 22 points and recorded three steals, giving Portland State a second reliable scoring option and additional pressure on the perimeter. Kelcy Phipps provided a clean scoring burst off the bench, finishing with 11 points on 4-for-4 shooting, including a made three-pointer.
Efficiency gap, turnovers and three-point shooting shaped the outcome
Team-level efficiency favored Portland State across several key categories. The Vikings shot 56% from the field (33-of-59) and 47% from three (7-of-15), compared with Idaho State’s 43% overall shooting (20-of-47) and 31% from deep (5-of-16).
A major separator came in ball security. Portland State committed four turnovers, while Idaho State had 15. With Portland State leading for virtually the entire game, those extra possessions limited Idaho State’s ability to mount sustained runs and helped the Vikings convert control into separation.
- Halftime score: Portland State 43, Idaho State 32

Idaho State’s bench contributions weren’t enough to change momentum
Idaho State received points from multiple contributors, led by Caleb Van De Griend with 13 off the bench. Evan Otten finished with 12 points, and Connor Hollenbeck scored 10. Idaho State stayed within 11 at halftime but did not flip the underlying possession battle or match Portland State’s shot-making over the final 20 minutes.
Portland State paired high-percentage offense with low turnover basketball, then widened the margin steadily after halftime.
