Portland police ask for public help identifying assault suspect after April attack near West Burnside

Investigation centers on late-night attack in the West Burnside and Northwest Broadway area
Portland police are asking the public to help identify a man suspected of assaulting a woman in the West Burnside Street and Northwest Broadway area in April 2025. Investigators released images of the suspect and are requesting tips that could lead to an identification.
The incident was reported shortly after midnight on Thursday, April 24, 2025. Officers responding to a disturbance call located an adult woman with injuries to her head and leg. Police said she was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Before being transported, the woman told officers she had been walking when an unknown man approached and assaulted her. Police described the attack as unprovoked. Investigators also reported the suspect made a racially charged comment during the incident.
What police have released about the suspect
Police described the suspect as a Black male, approximately 30 to 40 years old and about 200 pounds. The bureau released multiple photos as part of its request for public assistance.
The case is being investigated by the bureau’s Major Crimes Unit. Police are asking anyone who recognizes the suspect, or who has information that may help identify him, to email tips and reference case number 25-105522.
How public tips can shape cases where a suspect is unknown
Requests for identification are typically made when investigators have images or other leads but do not yet have a confirmed name or location for a suspect. In these cases, tips can help detectives narrow down possible identities, establish a timeline, and identify additional witnesses or relevant surveillance video from nearby businesses, buildings, or vehicles.
Police generally encourage tipsters to share specific details that can be checked, such as a person’s name, distinguishing features visible in released images, where and when the individual may have been seen, and any information about associates or frequent locations. Investigators may use those details to seek further corroboration through interviews, records checks, or additional video review.
What to know before sharing information
Do not approach or attempt to detain a person you think may match images released by police.
Preserve potential evidence: if you have relevant video, keep the original file and note the date, time, and location.
Provide concrete identifiers when possible, including full names, nicknames, workplaces, or frequently visited locations.
Anyone with information is asked to email tips and reference PPB case number 25-105522.
The investigation remained open at the time police issued their public request for help identifying the suspect.
