Officials renew push to identify man found dead in North Portland wetlands, with case still unresolved

Case remains open more than a year after discovery

Investigators are asking the public for help identifying an adult man whose remains were found in North Portland wetlands last year, as efforts to establish his identity have not produced a match through conventional methods.

The man’s remains were recovered in a marshy area near the St. Johns Bridge after workers clearing vegetation encountered skeletal material. The condition of the remains indicated he had likely been dead for about a year before he was found, making standard identification steps such as immediate visual recognition or recent missing-person matching more difficult.

What officials say is known so far

Officials have released a limited set of characteristics in an attempt to generate leads:

• The remains are believed to be those of an adult male.
• The man was estimated to be approximately 5 feet 2 inches to 5 feet 5 inches tall.
• The cause and manner of death have not been determined.

Because the remains were described as skeletonized, investigators have treated the case as an identification effort first, with forensic examination continuing in parallel to determine whether any evidence can clarify how the man died.
