The afternoon regular City Council session is scheduled to run from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Residents may attend in person at the City Council Chambers located on the second floor of City Hall (1221 SW Fourth Avenue) or participate virtually. Public testimony for agenda items is welcome, though virtual participants must register at least one hour before the meeting begins. Live broadcasts are available on the city’s official YouTube channel and local cable channels 30 and 330.
Public Health Advisory: Regional Measles Monitoring
Multnomah County health officials have issued a regional advisory following the detection of several measles cases in Oregon and southwest Washington this month. While there are currently no known cases within Multnomah County, the Health Department is closely monitoring the situation due to the highly contagious nature of the virus. Officials recommend that all residents verify their MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccination status. Symptoms to watch for include high fever, cough, runny nose, and a characteristic blotchy rash that usually appears several days after initial symptoms. If exposure is suspected, residents are advised to call their healthcare provider before visiting a clinic to prevent further spread.
Transportation and Safety Alerts
The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) has provided several updates regarding city infrastructure and seasonal safety:
- Snowplow Naming Results: PBOT recently concluded its second annual Snowplow Naming Contest. Residents can now see the winning names on the city’s fleet as they remain on standby for late-winter weather events.
- Sneaker Wave Warning: While city streets are currently clear of chain requirements, the National Weather Service has issued a high sneaker wave threat for the Oregon coast starting tomorrow, February 13, through the weekend. Residents planning coastal travel should remain observant of the surf.
- Holiday Closure: Most City of Portland offices will be closed on Monday, February 16, in observance of Presidents Day. Emergency services will remain fully operational.
Parks and Botanical Services Update
Leach Botanical Garden, a 17-acre public facility in outer southeast Portland, has issued a public notice regarding a critical funding shortfall. As of this week, the garden has significantly reduced public programming and is operating with a reduced workforce. While the City and the nonprofit operators continue to negotiate a long-term financial agreement, the garden may face full closure by mid-March if additional operating funds are not secured. Community members are encouraged to check the garden's official website for updated hours of operation.
