Public Health Notice: Bull Run Water Monitoring Update

The Portland Water Bureau has released its latest monitoring results for the Bull Run Watershed, the city’s primary source of drinking water. Routine testing conducted in early February 2026 detected low levels of Cryptosporidium, a microorganism that can cause respiratory and gastrointestinal illness. Specifically, oocysts were detected in source water samples collected during the first week of the month.

Despite these detections, city health officials and the Water Bureau have concluded that the current levels do not pose an immediate risk to the general public. At this time, customers do not need to take additional precautions or boil their water. The city remains on a strict compliance schedule with the Oregon Health Authority to complete a new filtration facility by September 2027, which will provide permanent treatment for such microorganisms. Monitoring continues on a daily basis to ensure the safety of the municipal supply.

Transportation Advisory: Weekend Roadwork and Restrictions

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) have issued several notices for travelers moving through the metro area this Saturday, February 14. Construction and maintenance activities are expected to impact the following corridors:

  • I-205 Northbound: Near the Oregon City area, travel lanes are restricted to a maximum width of 18 feet on Saturday nights. This restriction is active from 10:00 p.m. through 8:00 a.m. the following morning to accommodate ongoing bridge and seismic upgrades.
  • I-5 Rose Quarter: Motorists should anticipate intermittent overnight lane closures between the Oregon Convention Center and the Burnside Bridge. Crews are currently performing barrier work and stormwater facility upgrades as part of the multi-year Rose Quarter Improvement Project.
  • Historic Columbia River Highway: A total closure remains in effect for the section of U.S. 30 between Multnomah Falls and the Oneonta Trailhead. This closure applies to all users, including pedestrians and cyclists, and is expected to last through the spring.

Holiday Service Schedule: Presidents Day Closures

Residents are reminded that most City of Portland administrative offices will be closed on Monday, February 16, in observance of Presidents Day. This closure includes the Water Bureau’s customer service call center and the Bureau of Development Services. While emergency services remain fully operational, non-emergency maintenance requests may experience delays. Portland Parks & Recreation community centers may remain open on a modified schedule; residents are encouraged to check with their local facility before visiting.

City Council Preview: Upcoming Legislative Sessions

Portland City Council has published its agenda for the upcoming sessions on February 18 and 19. Key items for consideration include a resolution to establish priorities for the allocation of approximately $20.7 million in unspent Rental Services Office funds. Additionally, the Council will hear a request for a minor boundary change to the Portland Enterprise Zone and review a supplemental budget for the Portland Housing Bureau for the 2025-26 fiscal year. Public testimony for these items can be registered through the City Clerk’s office.
