Morning Commute Overview

Good morning, Portland. As we head into Wednesday, February 11, 2026, commuters should prepare for a mix of event-related congestion and ongoing infrastructure projects. While the morning rush is expected to follow typical patterns, a major event at the Expo Center and nightly scheduled lane closures on I-5 will require a bit of extra planning for those on the road today.

Major Event Alert: Pacific Northwest Sportsmen’s Show

The Pacific Northwest Sportsmen’s Show kicks off today at the Portland Expo Center and runs through Sunday. We expect significantly higher traffic volumes on I-5 North, particularly around the Marine Drive exit (Exit 306). If you are commuting through North Portland or heading toward Vancouver this afternoon, expect delays between 11:00 AM and 7:00 PM as attendees arrive. TriMet’s MAX Yellow Line is highly recommended for those attending to avoid the parking bottleneck at the Expo lots.

Key Roadworks and Nightly Closures

  • I-5 Barrier Work: ODOT has scheduled overnight lane closures on Interstate 5 between the Oregon Convention Center and the Burnside Bridge. Expect intermittent closures in both northbound and southbound left lanes from 10:00 PM tonight until 5:00 AM tomorrow morning. While no detours are required, please use caution when passing crews.
  • I-205 Abernethy Bridge: Work continues on the bridge and surrounding interchanges. Travelers in Oregon City should note that daytime flagging is active on Main Street today from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Additionally, the ramp from I-205 South to OR 99E will close nightly starting at 10:00 PM.
  • I-5 Southbound (I-405 Interchange): Construction near the I-405 North interchange is causing minimal delays, but drivers should remain alert for single lane closures as weather permits throughout the day.

Bridge and Transit Updates

The Broadway Bridge remains under a long-term maintenance project for its lift deck replacement. While the bridge is open to traffic today, cyclists and pedestrians should follow marked pathways as crews work to complete this seismic and structural upgrade by April. The Burnside Bridge remains fully operational as it is currently in its design phase, with major construction not slated until 2028.

Regarding public transit, TriMet is operating on its standard weekday schedule today. For those attending the Sportsmen’s Show, the MAX Yellow Line provides direct service to the Expo Center every 15 minutes during peak hours. Be aware that TriMet is currently hosting community listening sessions this month to discuss major service adjustments proposed for the end of the year; however, no immediate disruptions are reported for today’s commute.
