Jarrett Allen’s career-high 40 points power Cavaliers past Trail Blazers 130-111 in Portland

Cleveland builds control through the middle as Portland’s short-handed roster struggles to keep pace
The Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 130-111 on Sunday night, Feb. 1, 2026, at the Moda Center, handing Portland a fifth consecutive loss. Cleveland was led by center Jarrett Allen, who delivered a career-high 40 points and added 17 rebounds, five assists and four blocks as the Cavaliers controlled the paint on both ends.
The outcome stood out not only for the final margin, but for how consistently Cleveland generated high-percentage offense. Allen finished 16-of-23 from the field and was the focal point of an attack that repeatedly reached the rim. Portland’s interior defense was stretched throughout, with rookie center Donovan Clingan absorbing much of the primary matchup.
Perimeter shooting and playmaking widened the gap
While Allen anchored the performance, Cleveland also received significant contributions on the perimeter. Sam Merrill scored 22 points and made six 3-pointers, supplying spacing that punished Portland’s help defense inside. Jaylon Tyson added 18 points and six assists, and Craig Porter Jr. finished with 12 assists, giving Cleveland steady ball movement that translated into efficient possessions.
Cleveland’s decisive separation came after halftime. The Cavaliers won the third quarter 41-30, turning a competitive first half into a double-digit cushion and forcing Portland into catch-up mode for most of the fourth.
Portland’s comeback attempt fell short amid turnovers and limited trips to the line
Portland briefly tightened the game late, trimming a 24-point deficit to 10 in the fourth quarter. The rally, however, did not fully flip the momentum, and Cleveland closed out the final minutes without surrendering the lead.
For Portland, Caleb Love scored 21 points off the bench and Shaedon Sharpe added 20. Clingan finished with eight points, 12 rebounds and four blocks, with much of his most productive stretch coming during Portland’s late run.
- Portland committed 22 turnovers, repeatedly giving Cleveland extra possessions.
- The Trail Blazers attempted 12 free throws, limiting a key pathway to easy points when shots were not falling.
Injuries shaped rotations on both sides
Both teams navigated absences. Cleveland played without Evan Mobley and Darius Garland, while Portland was without Deni Avdija and Jrue Holiday. Avdija, Portland’s top scorer this season, missed the game with a lower back strain, leaving the Trail Blazers without a primary creator and high-volume scorer for extended stretches.
Next up, Portland remains at home to face the Phoenix Suns, continuing a stretch in which the Trail Blazers are trying to stabilize performance and availability as the season approaches its second half.
