Grand Ballets and Local Flavors: What’s On Today in Portland

Art and Exhibitions
Today marks a major highlight for art lovers as the Portland Art Museum hosts the sweeping exhibition David Hockney: Works from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer. This North American survey features over 200 vibrant works spanning six decades, including the artist's iconic iPad drawings and California-inspired landscapes. For a more interactive experience, the museum is also celebrating Public Piano Playing Day, inviting visitors to listen to or participate in live performances within the galleries.
In the Pearl District, the Blackfish Gallery is premiering its 2026 Metro Exhibition, "Layered Perceptions," showcasing contemporary works from regional artists. Meanwhile, the Pacific Northwest Sculptors have their "Illuminated Works" exhibit on display at the Justice Center Sidewalk Gallery, featuring light-up sculptures that transform the downtown streetscape after dusk.
On the Stage and Screen
It is a blockbuster Saturday for the performing arts. At the Keller Auditorium, the Oregon Ballet Theatre presents the final performance of The Sleeping Beauty. This production, choreographed by Christopher Stowell to Tchaikovsky’s timeless score, offers a last chance to witness the fairytale magic before the run concludes. Nearby at the Newmark Theatre, the World Ballet Company performs Cinderella at 7:00 PM, featuring hand-painted sets and stunning costume design.
For a cinematic and musical fusion, the Oregon Symphony presents How to Train Your Dragon in Concert at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. The film will be projected on the big screen while the orchestra performs John Powell’s Academy Award-nominated score live. Additionally, the 36th Annual Cascade Festival of African Films continues today with screenings at various venues, celebrating Black History Month through African-led storytelling.
Live Music and Nightlife
Portland’s music venues are packed tonight. Cat Power takes the stage at Revolution Hall at 8:00 PM for her "Greatest Tour" anniversary performance, while the legendary Suzanne Vega performs at the Aladdin Theater. If you are looking for something more intimate, The Joy Formidable brings a stripped-back set to The Old Church Concert Hall at 7:30 PM. For those in the mood for comedy, Ian Fidance is performing at the Helium Comedy Club, and the Portland Comedy Theater is hosting its signature "Comedy 2 Nite" improv show at 9:00 PM.
Markets and Community
Start your morning at the PSU Farmers Market, which is open from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Portland State University. With over 100 local vendors, it is the premier spot for winter produce, artisan cheeses, and freshly baked goods. Foodies should also note that today is the grand finale of Dumpling Week. Over 40 participating restaurants across the city are serving their final special edition dumplings for the year, making it the perfect day for a self-guided food crawl.
