Gonzaga routs Portland in Spokane rematch, clinching share of WCC regular-season title and tournament top seed

Gonzaga answers early-February upset with decisive home win
Gonzaga, ranked No. 9, returned to the top of the West Coast Conference race Wednesday night with an 89-48 win over Portland at McCarthey Athletic Center in Spokane. The result secured Gonzaga at least a share of the WCC regular-season championship and positioned the Bulldogs as the conference tournament’s No. 1 seed in Las Vegas.
The game also served as the rematch of Portland’s 87-80 win over Gonzaga on Feb. 4 at the Chiles Center in Portland, a result that stood as Gonzaga’s only conference loss. Wednesday’s outcome flipped the storyline quickly: Gonzaga led 36-21 at halftime and expanded the margin throughout the second half.
Turnovers and perimeter shooting tilt the game early
Portland struggled to create consistent offense and was forced into 22 turnovers, a key driver of Gonzaga’s separation. Gonzaga’s shooting also proved decisive: the Bulldogs hit 14 three-pointers, while Portland went 4-for-20 from beyond the arc and finished at 34.7% shooting overall.
Graham Ike led Gonzaga with 19 points and added eight rebounds while matching a Gonzaga single-game benchmark under coach Mark Few with seven steals. Braeden Smith scored 15, and Gonzaga received 12 points apiece from Mario Saint-Supery and Tyon Grant-Foster.
For Portland, freshman guard Joel Foxwell scored a team-high 12 points. The Pilots played without starting forward Cameron Williams due to a concussion, and Foxwell—who entered the game as the conference assists leader—finished without an assist.
What the win changes in the WCC race
At 16-1 in WCC play after the victory, Gonzaga locked in the conference tournament’s top seed and guaranteed at least a share of the regular-season title. The Bulldogs can still claim the championship outright in their final regular-season game Saturday at Saint Mary’s.

What’s next for Portland
Portland fell to 12-18 overall and 5-12 in conference play. The Pilots return home Saturday to host San Diego, closing the regular season with a Senior Day game at the Chiles Center before the WCC tournament begins March 5 in the Las Vegas area.
By winning the rematch convincingly, Gonzaga converted a late-season rivalry test into a title-clinching night, while Portland faces a short turnaround to reset ahead of its final home date and postseason play.
