Mid-Week Magic in the Rose City

It is Wednesday, January 28, 2026, and Portland is proving that the middle of the week is no time to slow down. From immersive science experiences for adults to world-class comedy and local indie music, today’s schedule offers a diverse array of events to shake off the winter chill.

Into the Abyss at OMSI

The standout event today is the first OMSI After Dark of the year. This 21+ event, titled "Into the Abyss," transforms the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry into a late-night playground from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. To celebrate the featured "Monsters of the Abyss" exhibition, the museum is hosting a deep-sea-themed evening focused on the mysteries of the ocean. Attendees can enjoy beverage samplers from local vendors, participate in hands-on science experiments, and listen to lectures about the strange bioluminescent life found in the world's deepest waters. It is a rare chance to explore the exhibits without the usual daytime crowds.

Comedy and Live Music

If you are looking for a laugh, head over to Helium Comedy Club. Comedian Sam Tallent, known for his sharp wit and high-energy storytelling, takes the stage tonight at 7:15 pm. For those who prefer the local music scene, Mississippi Studios is hosting a stellar indie-rock lineup. Portland favorites Analog Dog will be headlining the night, joined by BendreTheGiant and New Body Electric. Doors open at 7:00 pm, and the show kicks off at 8:00 pm.

Community Meetups and Nightlife

  • Wine Wednesday at Négociant: From 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, this NW 21st Avenue spot is hosting a special "Alpine Wine" tasting. Expect character-driven pours that highlight the terroir of high-altitude vineyards.
  • Drag Bingo & Lip Sync Smackdown: The Pharmacy in Northwest Portland hosts its popular weekly bingo night starting at 6:30 pm. Led by local hosts, the event is free to attend and features a high-stakes lip-sync competition following the bingo rounds.
  • Marsh & Mallow Grand Opening: For something sweet, visit Director Park for the grand opening of the Marsh & Mallow s’mores boutique, featuring unique topping combinations and local goat experiences on-site today.

Public Exhibitions

For a more reflective afternoon, the Portland Art Museum has several major exhibitions open today. Do not miss "Pipilotti Rist: 4th Floor to Mildness," an immersive video installation that uses melodic sound and luminous color to create an aquatic-inspired environment. Additionally, "Rick Bartow: Storyteller" continues its run, showcasing the powerful visual narratives and Native history of the acclaimed Wiyot artist.
